Surrounded by mountains reaching 3,000 meters in height, Nagano Prefecture is called the rooftop of Japan. Nagano is landlocked and borders eight other prefectures.
Eight of Japan’s water systems originate in Nagano. These rivers divide the flatlands of Nagano into six regions.
