Geographic features

Dazaifu City is located in the midwestern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, about 16km southeast of Fukuoka City. It has Mt. Homan in the east and Mt. Shioji in the north, and the Mikasa River runs through the central part of the city.
The Kyushu Expressway, National Route 3, Fukuoka Urban Expressway, and 11 prefectural roads run through the city. In addition, there are JR and Nishi-Nippon Railroad lines, providing an important means of transportation for residents of the city.
Besides, Dazaifu City has many historical sites and famous places such as Dazaifu Government Office ruins, Mizuki Fortress ruins, Kanzeonji Temple, Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and so on. Moreover, it has been certified as a Japan Heritage as "The Western Capital of Ancient Japan-an Exchange Hub with East Asia."
In recent years, due to the relationship with the new era "Reiwa," Dazaifu City has been attracting attention again as "the city of Reiwa origin." So many people from Japan and abroad visit the special historical site, Dazaifu Government Office ruins, and its surroundings, which include the land related to Manyoshu,and the Dazaifu Pavilion, in which we can learn the history of the city through displays and commentaries.
