Geographical features

Gifu is one of Japan’s few inland prefectures, situated approximately in the center of the Japanese archipelago. Seki City (in Gifu Prefecture) is the population center of Japan. The Hida area has several mountains above 3,000 m, while the three Kiso Rivers (Kiso, Nagara and Ibi Rivers) flow through the Mino area in the south to the Nobi Plains. There is a dramatic difference in elevation between plains found at sea level and mountain ranges above 3,000 m.
