Geographical features

Shimane is located in the western part of Honshu. It is long and narrow, stretching about 230 km in length along the Sea of Japan. The Oki Islands are located 40 ~ 80 km north of the Shimane Peninsula. The prefecture has a rich and diversified natural landscape that includes mountains, rivers, seas, forests and rice paddies.
