Geographic features

Yamanashi Prefecture is surrounded by precipitous mountains. In the northeastern portion of the prefecture are the Chichibu Mountains and in the west are the Akaishi Mountains (also known as the “Minami Alps”) with an altitude of over 3,000m. To the south is Japan's highest peak and a World Heritage Site: Mt. Fuji (3,776m), and to the north are the vast Yatsugatake and Kayagatake volcanic groups. This mountainous area is blessed with wonderful scenery including mountains, forests, lakes and valleys, and it is also home to national parks such as the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.
