Geographic features

Anhui is located in Southeast China, at the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River and Huaihe River. It lies in the eastern part of central China, linking south to north, with easy access to rivers and seas, and is at China's most economically dynamic region — the Yangtze River Delta region. It connects Jiangsu, Zhejiang at its east, Hubei, Henan at its west, Jiangxi at its south, and Shandong at its north. The Yangtze River and the Huaihe River, China’s two major rivers, run through the province and divide it into three natural areas – the boundless plains north of the Huaihe River, the rolling hills between the two rivers, and the stretch of high mountains south of the Yangtze River. Chaohu Lake is one of China’s five largest freshwater lakes.
