Geographic features

The town is located in approximately the center of Nara Prefecture to the northwest of Yoshino County that occupies the southern half of the prefecture.
Eighty percent of the town is forest, and there is a lot of precipitous topography.
The urban area is formed in the low-lying area along the Akinogawa River in the center and the Yoshinogawa River to the north. There are small settlements scattered about the hillsides and valleys along the Nyugawa River
