Melaka sits upon the southwestern coast of Malay Peninsula opposite Sumatra, with the state of Negeri Sembilan to the north and west and Johor to the south. Melaka is also situated roughly two-thirds of the way down the West coast, 148 km south east of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia and 245 km north west of Singapore and commands a central position on the Straits of Malacca. The state is bordered in the west by the Straits of Malacca, and on the east and the north by high mountains and tropical rainforests. The state capital Melaka City is strategically located between the two national capitals (of Malaysia and Singapore, respectively) and connected with excellent roads and highways and a domestic airport terminal rests in Batu Berendam. The city centre was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in July 2008. Melaka River was once dubbed as "Venice of the East" by the European Seafarers in the 15th century.
In May 2018, when the new government has launched new slogan for Melaka State called ‘Melaka Berwibawa’ which means Melaka Authoritative. The three aspects that focused by Melaka State are ‘Smart, Green and Clean’. It has given an impressive look and motivation for the citizen to work towards the goal of the new government.
Rich in history, Melaka's top attractions include Melaka River Cruise, Kampung Hulu Mosque, Jonker Walk, Portuguese Square, St. John's Fort, A'Famosa, Stadthuys, and the Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum.
