Geographic features

Kofu City, the seat of Yamanashi Prefecture, is located at almost the center of Japan islands.  The area of the city is rather long, north to south.  Several peaks, over 2,000m high, run from east to west in the mountainous lands, the north side of the city.  The urban area is in the middle of the Kofu Basin.  The land is almost flat, and slants southward a little.
You can observe Minami-Alpine mountains to the west, Yatsugatake-mountains to the north, and Mt. Fuji, one of the World Heritages, to the south.  Arakawa-river runs from north to south in the middle of the city; the headwaters are in the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park.  And the Mitake-Shousenkyou-gorge and Ashigawa-gorge are famous for the beauty of the sites.  Thus, Kofu is a nature-rich city.
